John Healey downs pint in Budget celebrations while pub-going Britons face ‘beer tax’ at boozers

John Healey has downed a pint in Budget celebrations as pub-going Britons face a "beer tax" at boozers.

Mr Healey was filmed at The Two Chairmen pub in Westminster, drinking a pint of Chancellor's Choice.

Growth Minister and Labour MP for Chipping Barnet, Dan Tomlinson, was heard cheering on the Chancellor as he finished the pint at what is thought to be the oldest public house in Westminster.

He was filmed turning the pint upside down above his head in what is a historic tradition.

But millions of Britons will now pay more at the pump because of Labour's Budget announcements.

Alcohol duty will rise by 3.9 per cent, pushing the price of a pint up by 2p.

The average price of a pint in London is already above £6, and will continue to rise.

The increase is expected to add between 10p and 12p to the price of a bottle of wine, depending on its strength.

Meanwhile, a bottle of 37.5 per cent gin will rise by 35p.

Mr Tomlinson, who filmed the celebration, said: "The boss seeing off a pint of Chancellor's Choice after a long day at the office."
