WATCH: Makerfield residents deliver verdict on whether Andy Burnham has 'passed the test'

Makerfield residents have told GB News whether they believe Andy Burnham has passed the "Makerfield test" since becoming their MP and then Prime Minister as a result.

Speaking to GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope, one resident, Glynn, said: "I think he's used the electorate of Makerfield as a stepping stone to become Prime Minister, and I don't think he's really got any care for the community at all.

"I was against leaving the EU, but I think it would be very difficult to rejoin now. I think they'd want a lot in return for us to rejoin. We have one of the lowest pensions in Europe, and to make it even lower, it doesn't seem a very good idea, as a pensioner."

Asked whether he believes there is an issue with "HMO Britain" in Makerfield, Glynn agreed: "Yes, it is indeed, and a lot of the expense is going towards supporting migrants, illegal or otherwise, and basically he's asking pensioners to pay for it, and I totally obviously disagree with it."

Throwing her support behind Mr Burnham, another local told GB News: "I voted for Andy Burnham, and the speech he made yesterday at conference was the best I've ever heard of anyone.

"It brought tears to people's eyes. He's a genuine man, and I think he'll do what he's saying he's going to do, we've just got to give him time.

"He's got a big mess to sort out, and once he sorted that mess out, he's genuine and he will do everything he says. He's got to keep Reform out."

Asked about illegal migration, the local told GB News that she "doesn't believe it is an issue" in Makerfield.

She said: "Well, I don't think it's so much around here because it's the people who live at Dover and places like that. We've got to give Andy a chance.

"I think he will keep his promise, I've got faith in him. I sat through an hour of his speech and I was in tears at the end, and I think he's genuine."
