WATCH: Angela Rayner hails Andy Burnham after 'fantastic' conference speech

Housing Secretary Angela Rayner has praised Andy Burnham's conference speech and said the Government is "getting the rocket boosters that I asked for".

Reacting to the Prime Minister's speech, she told GB News: "I thought it was absolutely fantastic. I thought he levelled with the public, and he was brilliant.

"That's what people want to hear: straight talking, saying I'm going to grasp some of the challenges that this country faced and being patriotic. He got really emotional, was emotional about it.

"He talked about the union, he talked about his dad. He talked about the type of country we are, the people that we are, the resilience that we have, and he wants to build that as the Prime Minister."

She added: "Let's be pragmatic. He's levelling. He said that, about what we do in our energy, what we do with our housing, what we do with the essentials that we need for Britain to get on.

"And he's saying, 'I'm going to be a pragmatic Prime Minister that drives the change that the country is desperate for'."

Asked by GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope if the Government was being re-booted, Ms Rayner said: "It's getting the rocket boosters that I asked for."

On housing, she said: "I've said that that target is [one we're] absolutely determined to meet.

"The Prime Minister mentioned it as the first outline of his speech around the essentials, around the cost of living, around energy, water, housing – it's going to get Britain building again."
