WATCH: Andy Burnham belts out socialist anthem to close Labour conference
Andy Burnham belted out a socialist anthem, The Red Flag, as the Labour Party conference drew to a close.
The Prime Minister, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, and Deputy Labour leader Lucy Powell, together with hundreds of delegates, sang the song penned by Irish Marxist Jim Connell.
The Red Flag has long been associated with left-wing movements worldwide and has traditionally been sung at the end of Labour conferences.
“So raise the scarlet standard high. Beneath its shade we'll live and die. Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer. We'll keep the red flag flying here,” some of the lyrics read.
After the Socialist rendition, the Labour conference then sang the patriotic hymn Jerusalem.
