Shabana Mahmood announces new protections for high-profile figures after Ann Widdecombe killing
Shabana Mahmood has announced an expansion to police support for political figures who are not MPs following the murder of Ann Widdecombe.
The Home Secretary confirmed there will be an independent review of the UK's current protective system, which will be carried out by Sir Stephen Lovegrove.
Sir Stephen will look at whether the current arrangements are fit for purpose, including high-profile individuals, government ministers, MPs, and other British political figures.
The Home Secretary announced the decision to MPs in the House of Commons this afternoon.
