Nigel Farage issues 'emergency address to the nation'

Nigel Farage has issued an "emergency address to the nation" this morning on the shocking case of Henry Nowak.

The Clacton MP said the case of Mr Nowak's murder was "proof we live in a two-tier country", just hours before Sir Keir Starmer's Government will face MPs in the Commons.

The Reform UK leader said: "Think of this. The biggest fear a police officer must face is an accusation that they have acted in a way that was racially-biased."

Saying the punishment given to Mr Nowak's murderer was more lenient than a "sustained, aggressive, murderous assault", Mr Farage announced that he would write to the Attorney General, Lord Hermer, to review the sentence.

He added that the "most important" thing to change to prevent the destruction of society was a "change in culture".

"Enough of anti-white prejudice. A promotion of the idea that white lives matter just as much as black lives. This is serious. This is urgent," the MP declared.

The speech echoed Mr Farage's claim yesterday that "white lives matter too" after police finally released bodycam footage of officers handcuffing the 18-year-old.

Previously, the party leader heaped pressure on Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary to release the footage.

He later suggested the university student’s arrest was an example of two-tier justice.

Officers were recorded approaching Mr Nowak after the 18-year-old was stabbed with a 21cm Sikh ceremonial knife five times on his way home from a night out in Southampton on December 3 last year.

Mr Nowak, who was pushed into the gravel on a driveway, told officers "I have been stabbed" and "I can’t breathe".

The Government is also due to make a statement today before the Commons about Mr Nowak's murder.

Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle triggered an infrequently-used mechanism after MPs sounded the alarm over the case last week.

Yesterday, Sir Keir delivered a brief response to the sentencing of Vickrum Digwa.

But the Prime Minister's Government must now face the chamber to address the harrowing case which has shocked the nation.

Sir Keir, who was quick to condemn US police officers following the murder of George Floyd in 2020, penned a short 89-word response after Digwa was sentenced to life.

"This an awful, shocking case," he said. "Henry’s loved ones have gone through the trauma of a long trial and endured Henry's killer making up appalling claims about their son who was thoughtful, kind and deeply loved.

"It is right that the IOPC is investigating the police’s response to his senseless murder.

"And we must end the cycle of tragedy by tackling the horror of knife crime.

"Henry’s family, friends, his university and the city of Southampton will continue to feel his loss, and our thoughts will always be with them.

"And we must end the cycle of tragedy by tackling the horror of knife crime.
