Iran plotting 'surprise' drone attack on California as FBI issues warning

The FBI has warned of Iranian drones potentially striking the West Coast of the United States, with warnings of Tehran "aspiring to conduct a surprise attack on California."

According to the report, the Islamic Republic allegedly wanted to unleash unmanned aerial vehicles from a ship near the American mainland if the US launched strikes on the regime.

Officials have not revealed which sites could have been targeted or how a drone-carrying vessel might approach the US shoreline.

"We have no additional information on the timing, method, target, or perpetrators of this alleged attack", reports ABC News.

California Governor Gavin Newsom's office said the bulletin was one of many security updates the state received from federal partners daily.

California, it said, had elevated its security posture since the start of the conflict.

"The Governor's Office of Emergency Services is actively working with state, local and federal security officials," said Diana Crofts-Pelayo, a spokesman for Mr Newsom.

When asked if he was worried that Iran may increase its retaliation to include strikes on US soil, President Donald Trump told reporters, "No, I'm not."
