Donald Trump suggests 'leaving' Nato as he blames migrants who 'despise' France for chaos

Donald Trump has suggested leaving Nato after he blamed migrants who "despise" France for chaos on the streets.

The streets of Paris have seen widespread rioting which has resulted in more than 2,000 arrests and forced the French Government to hold a "crisis meeting".

Now, while campaigning in Kansas, the President blamed left-wing politicians for the violent unrest, adding that the US faces the same if the "radical" Democrats are elected.

"If you want to see what is at stake in this election, just look at what's happening in France," he said.

"A once great nation that is being conquered, looted and burned to the ground by migrants, jihadists and communists who hate Christianity, and they hate, frankly, the Western civilisation itself.

"And as we're seeing in Europe, globalists, left-wing politicians have treasonously imported millions and millions of third world migrants who are totally incompatible with west - and they are incompatible with Western values."

More than half a million demonstrators took to the street on Saturday, with some seen looting and setting fires to buildings and cars.

The riots have resulted in a historic 143-year-old town hall in southwest-central France being torched in what was described as a "deliberate act by hooligans".

Authorities imposed a curfew on Monday night to curb the violent unrest driven by young people, but it remains unclear how effective the measures will be.

The President previously said on Truth Social that migration had resulted in "people with hatred in their hearts" entering France.

In his speech on Monday to campaign for incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall, he seemed to suggest the US may leave Nato unless Europe curbs migration.

He also said he warned Emmanuel Macron "many years ago" to close France's borders.

The Commander-in-Chief said: "We stand with Europe despite its flaws and weaknesses, and hopefully it's going to be temporary what's going on there, because I watch that and I just am amazed. I could see it coming."

He added: "But if they don't soon find their way - and they have to find their way - we will have no choice but to leave. To leave, we will have no choice. It's a very serious situation."

While Mr Trump did not directly name Nato when he said the US would "leave", he went on to discuss the Iran war and the military alliance's lack of support at the outbreak of the conflict.

When Nato was asked to help in Iran - which the US "didn't need" - European allies did something "something that we can never really forget", the President said.

He added: "You know, we spent hundreds of billions of dollars a year on Nato protecting them. But when we said, would you like to help? 'No thank you'."

The President has previously said he was "strongly considering" pulling out of the international alliance and has repeatedly called the defence bloc a "paper tiger".

An increased military presence on Russia's border with Estonia have raised fears of an attack on a Nato member, which would be considered an attack on all countries within the defence alliance.
