Andrew Pierce clashes with Labour MP over branding Reform’s plan to end benefits for all foreign nationals ‘dogwhistle nonsense’
Andrew Pierce clashed with Labour MP Graeme Downie after he branded Reform UK’s plan to end benefits for all foreign nationals “dogwhistle nonsense”.
The Dunfermline and Dollar representative said the plan failed to recognise the contribution of people from overseas who work and pay into the UK.
Reform’s Treasury spokesman Robert Jenrick said he would redesign welfare and save more than £21billion a year within five years if Nigel Farage’s party win the next General Election.
He has outlined plans to cut entitlements to Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Pension Credit, Jobseeker's Allowance, Child Benefit, free childcare and disability benefits for foreigners, including EU nationals, in the UK.
Andrew challenged Mr Downie’s criticism of the policy, asking: “Why is it a dog whistle to say foreigners should not be given benefits?
“It does not acknowledge the incredible role that people from other parts of the world play in our economy, who work very well here, who contribute an incredible amount to our economy, to our public, to our public services.”
